
Monday night, 59 students were inducted into the Jefferson High School chapter of the National Honor Society. Congratulations students on your hard work and demonstration in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

The Jefferson Chronicle is hot off the press! Today the 7th issue of the JHS newspaper was distributed. This month, the student produced newspaper features stories ranging from spring sports to tattoos and everything in between.

Today, students in PBL Physics presented examples of different types of waves (springs, sound, water, earthquakes, etc.). They also demonstrated to the class how to change the frequency and velocity of the wave.





Students in Interior Design have been learning more about South Dakotan homestyles. To demonstrate their understanding, they replicated their favorite designs using only paper, tape, and glue.





Mark your calendars! The last day of school will be Wednesday, May 25th, 2022.
The Sioux Falls School Board approved a recommendation at their meeting tonight to move the last day of school from Tuesday, May 24, 2022 to Wednesday, May 25, 2022 due to the one day of school missed for inclement weather in December.


The Unified basketball teams from Jefferson and Roosevelt took the court Friday night to conclude Choose to Include week. Halftime entertainment was provided by the JHS & RHS Unified Show Choir, and the Dakota Spirit Adaptive Spirit Squad.

Freshman Extravaganza! Today, 9th graders participated in a variety of activities throughout the building. Activities included community service projects, free read time, study and tutoring sessions, games, arts and crafts, movies, and Latin dance lessons.

This week we honor the enormous contributions our assistant principals make to student success. Thank you, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Siebenahler, and Mr. Stadem, for all you do for the Cavalier community!


As part of the JHS College Fair, juniors had the opportunity to think more about their future plans today. Students were able to visit with representatives from several colleges and talk with military recruiters to explore some of their options for after graduation.

In the month of March, 1,336 books were read by Jefferson Students as part of the community wide reading initiative. Each book read was represented as a leaf on the reading tree in our library. District wide, students read 376,365 books!


Future Cavalier leaders from Garfield Elementary got to spend a few hours with the Jefferson Ambassadors this morning. During their visit, the little Cav’s received a tour of the school, and had lunch with the Ambassadors.





Welcome to Jefferson! 8th graders got their first chance to walk the halls of JHS on Tuesday! 458 students visited Jefferson and got their first look at what the next school year will bring.


Today, students in Graphic Design channeled their inner preschooler by building blanket forts, enjoying snacks, and playing memory all in preparation for their next big project – designing the coloring pages for Downtown Sioux Falls Summer Crazy Days!




How do we harness electricity to light up our houses? PBL Physics students posed as a design and construction team to create a model of a house with working circuits that must pass a building inspection. Students were asked to calculate the force between charges using Coulomb’s Law, manipulate electric current, potential, and resistance to build their circuits (Ohm’s Law), and differentiate between series and parallel circuits.





Maxed out on NCAA basketball? Switch gears and take in some football to raise funds for Sioux Falls Schools without PTA/PTOs! The Sioux Falls STORM take on the Iowa Barnstormers (that's the team Kurt Warner played for before he became SuperBowl MVP!) at 7:05pm tonight at The Premier Center.

Recently, students in Mrs. Bonham’s Fashion Design class got to experience working with non-traditional textiles. They were challenged to work together through the design process to construct a dress out of recycled materials. Once completed, students got to showcase their work and share more about their design.


SFSD students had a direct line of communication with the SD Secretary of Education Tiffany Sanderson today. The Superintendent's Student Advisory Council welcomed Sanderson at their quarterly meeting to discuss higher ed, workforce, and student assessment. #LoveSFSD

Superintendent Jane Stavem hosted nearly 50 future educators Tuesday for "Bagels with the Boss." Student teachers currently working in SFSD classrooms joined us to learning about job opportunities, hear about the support offered by the District's Instructional Coaches, and connect with leadership. We look forward to adding many of these new teachers to our team in the Fall!
