One hundred and two students in general foods class took part in a chocolate chip cookie experiment this week. They were tasked with making three types of chocolate chip cookies…one made with butter, one with vegetable oil and one with solid vegetable shortening. In a pre-assessment, 82% of students predicted they would like the butter cookies the best. The results were very surprising! 46 students (45%) preferred the cookies made with solid vegetable shortening (Crisco), 33% (32%) pick the vegetable oil cookies, and only 23 students (23%) preferred the butter version.
