Nev Peterson from Lincoln High School has walked across the stage with graduation honors. The LHS Patriot is very direct in that she is undecided with her future. Our quiet, unassuming and independent CTE Biomed student is determined to walk her own path. It is in her nature. Nev can giftedly verbalize and write about the application of science and medicine to the real world and she can also be very insightful into the big career and educational choices in front of her. Nev’s teacher, Mrs. Nelson wrote, “Nev is creative and open-minded – important traits for a medical professional. Nev is an excellent teammate and brings out the best in others.” Nev – we know that determination and kind demeanor of yours is threaded with intellect, fortitude and persistence. After all, it is and always has been, in your nature. Congratulations on your “See the Vision” award!

Health Careers students visited Sanford Research to receive a lesson in gene analysis.

We have the triple crown of students and they are crossing the finish line. All three of our “See the Vision” award-winning seniors have pursued financial education in the CTE Academy of Finance Program. They represent the qualities of a triple crown winner – spirited, bold, intelligent and strong work ethic. Andrew Noble, Arleen LopezEsparza and Jaxon Lohnes all speak fondly of their experiences in the Academy of Finance. Exposure and connections to business were the most frequently expressed appreciation of their educational experiences. All three students are taking bold steps into the future. Andrew Noble will pursue a degree in Finance at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. Arleen LopezEsparza is going to major in International Business at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and Jaxon Lohnes plans to attend South Dakota State University for Electrical Engineering.

Congratulations to the class of 2023! Over 1,600 students walked across the stage yesterday to receive their diplomas. We wish you well on your next steps, whatever those may be! See more photos here: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjAEAYF

“I am learning how I learn best.” Those are the words of Gentry Owen, a senior from Washington High School. Gentry will be quick to add that he enjoys the personalization and hands-on activities that the CTE Academy offers. Gentry has specialized in digital music while at the CTE Academy. His teacher, Mrs. Mehlert added, “Gentry has shown so much musical growth this year! He will go far in life due to his drive and passion to succeed! Gentry plans to attend Augustana University and major in Pre-Law. Gentry, we think your willingness to learn and initiative to succeed will bring great things for you. Congratulations on being a “See the Vision” winner!

The Aviation program at the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Academy recently received a grant which allowed for the purchase of three, brand new, state-of-the-art flight simulators which rival the best anywhere in the state, including at college institutions. At an event on Wednesday, we celebrated the community partners of that program and allowed our Gold Card members (community members 60+ with interest in our schools) access to see and hear how it all works! Please help us congratulate Jolynn as she starts her first OFFICIAL day on the Habitat team! Jolynn first worked on a Habitat home while still in high school through the CTE Academy and then worked on Habitat homes again through our partnership with Southeast Technical College. Jolynn spent the last couple months on an internship program before accepting an offer to become one of our Construction Site Supervisors!

Your preteen is navigating their first summer without childcare. Older siblings are caring for younger siblings at home and meal preparation is a little too much responsibility. You’ve hired a teenage companion to take your kids to the parks, camps, and activities but this means funds are tight for food.
These are all real scenarios playing out in homes and apartments across Sioux Falls. That’s why the Sioux Falls School District is proud to, once again, offer free breakfasts and lunches to all children, ages 1-18 during June and July 2023.
Using meal counts from previous summers, the Office of Child Nutrition established a schedule for breakfast to be offered at eight schools on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Lunch will be served Mondays through Thursdays at six locations and Monday through Friday at two locations. The schedule will be emailed to SFSD families and will be posted on the District’s website: sf.k12.sd.us. No income eligibility paperwork is required..

The AOF CTE Business Groups worked with the RISE program at WHS yesterday making cups and jewelry products. What a fun collaboration for both groups!

A great big CTE Academy thank you to @sdstatepics for helping us celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week with ice cream! Here are some Jackrabbit alums enjoying our delicious treat!

For Elisibeth Venners, graduation from high school is right around the corner. Elisibeth is from Roosevelt High School and will graduate on May 21. Our soon to be alumnus will graduate with Accounting I, Introduction to Financial Services and Banking and Credit on her transcript. Her Academy of Finance (AOF) Teacher, Mrs. Brunken, is beaming with pride about Elisibeth’s accomplishments at the CTE Academy. Our Rough Rider and soon to be USD Coyote is going to major in Accounting and minor in Business next year. When Elisibeth was asked about her pursuit of excellence in the AOF Program, her immediate response was, “I love all the fieldtrips and personal interactions with the bankers and accountants.” Elisibeth, we know you are at a big intersection in life and you have more turns to take but we think you are traveling on a road of excellence in the financial industry! Congratulations on your “See the Vision” award!

“They go the extra mile!” We have two young men from Tri-Valley High School that bring a fun and infectious approach to their training in Welding at the CTE Academy. “Extra” is the word that was repeated frequently by their Welding Teacher, Mr. Benshoof. Brady Braaten and Weston VanDerVliet are both juniors and have taken Welding II and Advance Welding at the CTE Academy. The two Tri-Valley Mustangs have partnered to become a dynamic dual of getting it done. According to their teacher, our dynamic dual does extra work, extra projects, reload and fix machines and most importantly, they spend extra time and patience demonstrating their skills and knowledge to less experienced welders. Both students plan to use their welding skills in future employment. Weston and Brady, you have proven you go the extra mile! We think your compelling approach of getting it done will bring each of you miles of remarkable career success! Congratulations on being “See the Vision” winners!

We have become aware of a scam circulating that appears as if SFSD Child Nutrition Coordinator Gay Anderson is asking people to go out and purchase large dollar amounts of gift cards. Gay has NOT sent out a text or an email. Her communication devices appear to have been hacked. Please delete any communication and do not follow through with the request. We apologize for this inconvenience.

EMT students got to practice rapid extrication of patients from the AutoTech vehicles today! They did a great job! Knowing the feeling of being the patient pulled out of a vehicle is important for EMTs to experience! Trying to manipulate a real body in a small vehicle is quite a challenge as well! CTE=learn by doing. #siouxfalls #careerandtechnicaleducation #emt

Media Arts students took a field trip to USD. Students were able to tour the USD campus, the Media Department, as well as SDPB. What a great experience for our students!

Hunter Plueger enjoys welding. He took the class, Welding II and Advanced Welding at the CTE Academy, because he relishes the opportunity to work on the assignments......actually, building the assigned projects! Hunter Plueger is a junior from Tri-Valley High School and was nominated for his “See the Vision” award because of his enthusiasm for the occupation and the processes of welding. At a recent CTE open house, Hunter spent his evening giving tours and orientation to potential students and their parents. Needless to say, Hunter’s guidance and enthusiasm that evening was a hit. Our young man has knack for welding and knack for working with people. Hunter, we think a combination of those skills will make the sparks fly in your future! Congratulations!

We are proud to announce the Sioux Falls School District has been named a #BestCommunitiesforMusicEducation from @nammfoundation for its outstanding commitment to music education! Congratulations to our music educators, our talented students, and our community for your support!
